Soler fittings for medical gas supply systems
The planning, selection
and installation of pipework systems in medical and technical gas supply
systems in hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities not only requires a
great deal of care, but is also subject to clear specifications. As a rule, these
installations are realised with copper pipes and copper fittings. On the one
hand, copper offers very good antimicrobial properties and, on the other, can
be connected relatively quickly and safely using soldering technology.
Soldering technology in accordance with EN ISO 7396 is expressly intended as a
connection method for this special application.
Requirements for pipework for medical gases
The requirements for
piping systems for medical gases are described in EN ISO 7396-1 (Piping systems
for medical gases - Part 1: Piping systems for pressurised medical gases and
vacuum). The use of copper tubes in medical supply units is strongly recommended
in EN ISO 9170-2:2009-9 (Tapping points for piping systems for medical gases -
Part 2: Tapping points for anaesthetic gas delivery systems) and EN ISO 11197
(Medical supply units).

Notes on safe and hygienic installation
In general, we recommend the use of brazing alloys CP105 / L-AG 2P, SANHA® catalogue number 4936 and CP 203 / L-CU P6, SANHA® catalogue number 4939 for brazing pure copper types.
If brazing alloys with a high silver content and/or copper alloys are joined by brazing and the use of a flux cannot be avoided. Then a flux of type FH10 in accordance with EN 1045 must be used.
In addition, no particles or flux must get into the pipes during installation. Flushing with medical compressed air (alternatively nitrogen from pressurised cylinders) is required before connecting tapping fittings.
