New Trend: Micro-Living in Düsseldorf

At Himmelgeister Straße in Düsseldorf–Bilk, a modern residential concept has emerged on approximately 5,140 m², featuring 184 micro‑apartments and 86 parking spaces. This development responds to the growing “micro‑living” trend — offering compact, affordable housing solutions particularly well‑suited to students and a rising number of singles in major cities, for whom traditional apartments often prove oversized or financially out of reach.

Located in close proximity to Düsseldorf University and University Hospital, this facility meets the high demand for contemporary urban living in every respect. Among its key amenities are learning and media lounges, as well as innovative mobility concepts—including e‑car and e‑bike sharing systems.

Benefits for Installers and End-Users

The potable water supply has been executed using the premium stainless‑steel system NiroSan® (Series 9000). As with all our metallic systems, NiroSan® can be pressed using the original contours (SA, M, and V) up to a diameter of 54 mm—eliminating the need for costly new tools and minimizing the risk of confusion in a busy construction environment.

In addition to its outstanding hygienic properties, grade 1.4404 offers superior corrosion resistance compared to, for example, grade 1.4401, thanks to its specialized alloy composition featuring higher molybdenum and reduced carbon content.

For heating risers, the stainless‑steel system NiroTherm® was installed. Compared to carbon steel, this eliminates the need for external corrosion protection coatings as per AGI Q 151, thus saving both labor time and associated costs. Floor distribution and underfloor heating were realized using Multifit®‑Flex multilayer composite pipes coupled with 3fit®‑Press press fittings.

Another feature that significantly simplified installation was the use of our SANHA® connection boxes—pre‑assembled and already equipped with sound and condensation protection. These boxes only need to be mounted at the required height within the drywall frame—eliminating the time‑consuming tasks of measuring, aligning, and preparing tools and small parts.
