Modern piping systems for Volkshilfe Wien
Construction Project in Vienna with High Technical Demands and Complex Requirements
The building complex comprises three wings across three storeys plus a basement, offering approximately 800 m² of total floor space for various office units and functional areas. It includes both new construction and renovation of existing structures. In the legacy section, several construction defects required urgent remediation. Furthermore, the client mandated the integration of a modern, sustainable HVAC solution across both building sections to meet current standards for energy efficiency and indoor comfort.
Challenging Starting Conditions
"Despite significant challenges due to structural damage in the existing building, the project could be implemented efficiently thanks to modern technology and reliable partners. Particularly, the combination of brine-to-water heat pumps and system separation delivers a flexible and future-proof solution," explains Dominik Gstettner of Gstettner Haustechnik GmbH.
A high-performance 150 kW heat pump was installed in the new building to provide energy-efficient and environmentally friendly heating. Heat distribution is handled via underfloor heating, ensuring uniform room temperatures and enhanced comfort. To further guarantee flexible and reliable air conditioning, an LG VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system was installed as a backup solution.
Piping Systems from a Specialist Manufacturer
Two advanced piping systems from SANHA are used in the project: NiroTherm® and SANHA®-Therm. These were selected for their ease of installation, excellent material quality, and high reliability. NiroTherm® – made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel 1.4301 (AISI 304) – offers a long-lasting, hygienic and installation-friendly solution for closed-loop systems such as cooling circuits. The system eliminates the need for time-consuming coating or drying phases and significantly speeds up installation. For heating applications, the project team opted for SANHA®-Therm made from carbon steel. Its versatility and equally straightforward installation help to ensure fast and cost-effective implementation. Both systems feature SANHA’s industry-unique combipress® technology: In addition to Push & Stay and Leak Before Pressed (LBP) functionality, the fittings can be pressed with original SA, V, and M profiles up to 54 mm (and SA/M up to 108 mm). This significantly reduces the risk of errors on site and enhances overall safety and flexibility.
