Medical gases: safe transport and distribution with solder fittings by SANHA

Medical gases such as oxygen, nitrous oxide, xenon and many more are indispensable for many forms of modern diagnosis and therapy nowadays and are used for respiratory support, as an anaesthetic, to relieve pain or for operating and calibrating medical devices. As drugs and due to their use in hygienically sensitive areas high demands are placed on the quality and safety of the gases as well as on the distribution and transport system for them. SANHA offers the perfect solution with the 4000 and 5000 series of special solder and transition fittings of the “SA” brand.

28.06.2016

The 4000 series comprises solder transition fittings made from a copper alloy (CC499K), whereas the 5000 series consists of solder fittings made from copper. This material most notably meets the high demands that are placed on materials in this area of application. The bacteriostatic properties of copper in conjunction with the rational and proven installation technology speak for the use of this material. The use of copper pipelines in central medical and technical gas supply systems in hospitals or clinics including in medical supply units is the norm today and is recommended by the technical standard EN ISO 7396 (Medical gas pipeline systems).

All SANHA solder fittings are carefully degreased in our own plants, washed and packed clean. This means they are ideally suited for use in hygienically sensitive areas such as the transportation and distribution of medical gases in central gas supply systems. This requires keeping the solder fittings in their original packaging until ready for use on site.

To protect against localized corrosion, the EN 1254-1, chap. 4.5.2 stipulates a total carbon content on the inner surfaces of a maximum of 1.0 mg/dm². SANHA® solder fittings have a maximum level of 0.5 mg/dm² and thus not only meet the stringent requirements of the standard but also exceed them.

Both series are suitable for hard and soft soldering with copper pipes according to the BS EN 1057 norm. These fittings are also certified according to DVGW GW 6 and 8 as well as by the Gütegemeinschaft Kupferrohr e.V. - a member of the European Copper Alliance - according to RAL RG 641/4 and have been awarded the RAL seal of quality. They are designed for a maximum operating pressure of 40 bar (6–28 mm).

SANHA capillary solder fittings meet all the requirements of the BS EN 1254. Both series are currently being used by many well-known suppliers of medical gases.
